So, if anyone has read my blog for any amount of time, you may know some things about me. One thing being I don’t watch TV. I have 5 in the house, I just don’t watch them. But I realized I am missing so much about STORY to be learned from movies that I went and joined the local video store and I got a half off voucher for the first thirty days of my membership.
Today I got Firefly (the first three episodes?) and Army of Darkness.
Let me explain. I needed a cult classic movie for my story and someone else had recently used my favorite, Young Frankenstein. So I asked the Divas (because that’s what you do when you need help like that) and they voted for Army of Darkness. Which I hadn’t watched, so I figured I should so that I can know what my characters watch. Right?
I have to say, I’m really looking forward to plopping my rear on the couch and munching some popcorn. With real butter. Hopefully that will erase Hatchling #6 pulling on a shelf and knocking THE WHOLE THING down making the movie DVD cases flash out like thrown cards. Yes. It happened, and then he proceeded to BAWL. Not a whimper, but an opened mouthed BAWL. The store dude was more than awesome telling me that, “No, it happens all the time, really.”
I said, “You’re a doll for lying like that to try and make me feel better.”
“Not a lie, although I would, but it happens more than you think.”
I wanted to pinch his cheek.

I just watch football (soccer). The rest of British TV is just too intellectual for me.
Americans seem to do better comedy programmes these days : at least I assume they’re comedy because they make me laugh.
(” House” is comedy isn’t it ?)
M.
Army of Darkness is pretty good camp. Made me an instant Bruce Campbell fan.
Yes, M, House is comedy, but Hugh Laurie is British, so does it count as an American comedy?
The rest of Brit tv is too intellectual for you? Footballers’ Wives is too intellectual??? Dr. Who? Hex? Hotel Babylon? Or are they only exporting the less than intellectual ones and keeping all the good stuff at home?
House is fantastic.
I loved Firefly. At least the first disk.
Hugh Laurie is fantastic. If you saw him in the Blackadder series you wouldn’t believe it was the same guy.
Footballers Wives is way above my head – I can’t seem to understand a single word of it.
Dr Who is just plain childish.
Tonight we have Manchester United v Roma : something I can understand completely (even with Italian commentary).

Speaking of which, have you moved house yet ?

I guess I don’t think of Firefly as cult watching so much- but that’s perhaps because it’s so young. (I love it though!)
When I think of cult I always think of the oldies like you’ve already mentioned (Rocky Horror, Monty Python, Mel Brooks’) th ones only the nerd like me follow.
if you were going for firefly why didn’t you try Buffy? Don’t listen to Ann, she doesn’t whine ALL the time! hee!
When you get the chance you should watch THe Painted Veil for “story” inspiration. It’s a drama but I really liked how the heroine redeemed herself after commiting adultry- and how the hero handled it.
(and by “she” I didn’t mean ANN I meant BUFFY!)
Re store dude? I think you pretty much bring out the awesome in everyone you meet, baby.
Merlin-House (casa-not show). No.
Zeek, no, Firefly wasn’t on the cult list, sorry I inferred that. It was spoken of as a must so I started there. Because I forgot the mental list of other movies I wanted to try. Other than Army Of Darkness I’ve seen many of the cult classics and would even add Fargo, Raising Arizona and –damn–what’s the other ones I was thinking of?
The Painted Veil-got it.
And Selah mentioned one with Ellen Barkin (*please dear God let me be that hot when I’m as young as she*) that I’ve been wanting to see.
Selah-Real life people tend to like me no matter what I break. It’s the online ones that wish the Witch Trials never went out of style.
Ok, Army of Darkness is not doing it for me. I need some more help.
donnie darko? that’s got cult status, i think. i didn’t like it but my husband loved it
firefly i don’t think would be cult status, but i didn’t want to tell you that because i wanted you to watch it — EVERYONE in buffy whines (except maybe the one or two times that some of the firefly cast are on there – i think both Nathan Fillion and Gina Torres had a couple episodes of Buffy before Firefly)
heh Ferfe loves Donnie Darko … sicko
“EVERYONE in buffy whines’
::pouting:: well not ALL the time!
here’s the wiki link Eva- HEY how ’bout Bladerunner??
Oppps HERE’s the link:

OK, none on the Cult list.
I STILL have not watched Donnie Darko. And I own it.
Isn’t there anything out there smart and weird like Young Frankenstein? OHHHHH!
The Jerk! Steve Martin! I totally forgot about him! Dead Men Don’t Wear Plaid.
And Firefly is rocking my world. I’m addicted. Thanks for the heads up to Ann, Selah and Zeek.
When it will be continued?
