“I’ve been there. You find a thread and follow it. You just find the barest little shred or thread of something that is meaningful to you. It could be a writer you love to read. It could be a place you love to go. It could be just something that you love, like fabric — just find something that turns you on. You could be 50 years old and feeling really lost, but if you think back , even go back to when you were twelve, and think about what you liked to do then. That’s all you have to do to get started. You follow the thread, and the thread links up with another thread if you keep plugging away at it long enough. And then you find that you’re holding onto a rope and you’re really going somewhere.”
It struck me that as a parent it’s my job to make sure my kids never leave or forget that place. God forbid they grow up and lose the magic that makes them happy.
